TaskNote for Mac
The Windows app, brought to the Mac: a local database on your disk, no account needed, and the same notes, board and reminders. Native, light, in the menu bar.
Local database, no account
Like on Windows: everything lives in one file on your Mac. Nothing leaves it.
Menu bar and global hotkey
Capture a thought from any app with one shortcut; the window comes back where you left it.
Notes, board, reminders
All three in one window, with drag and drop on the board and reminders as system notifications.
Markdown in, Markdown out
Import from Obsidian, Evernote or Apple Notes exports, export everything back as Markdown files at any time.
What ships first
- 1Notes and notebooks with the full editor, checkboxes and templates
- 2The kanban board with due dates, checklists and the timer
- 3Global quick capture, the menu bar icon, and the web clipper talking to the Mac app
The web app on Mac vs the native app
The web app works in any browser on the Mac. The native app is a different thing: a local database and a window that is always one shortcut away.
| Web app today | Native app | |
|---|---|---|
| Works offline | Yes, after the first load | Yes, everything is on your disk |
| Account needed | Yes | No |
| Menu bar icon and global quick capture | No | Yes |
| System notifications for reminders | Only while the tab is open | Yes, even with the window closed |
| Web clipper saves into the app | Into your account | Into the local database on the Mac |
| Markdown export to a folder on disk | As a download | Yes, straight to a folder |
| App lock with a password | No | Yes |
Questions
When is it coming?+
We are building it now. The waitlist gets the first TestFlight builds and the release email; there is no public date yet, and we would rather ship something solid than promise a month.
Will it be free?+
Yes. Notes, the kanban board and reminders stay free, with the same Pro plan as on the web and on Windows for people who want no limits.
Does it need an account, and does it sync with the web app?+
No account. Like the Windows app, it keeps everything in a local database on the Mac. It does not sync with the web app; notes move between them with Markdown export and import.
Meanwhile
The web app already works on the Mac: open task-note.com, add it to the home screen and it runs full screen, offline included.
