Welcome to TaskNote.

TaskNote is more than just a notepad. It is a secure, distraction-free environment designed to help you capture ideas and stay productive without compromising your privacy.

This guide will help you master the essentials and discover the power features that make TaskNote unique.

🔐 1. Getting Started: Security First

Unlike other apps, TaskNote doesn't see your data. To make this possible, we use client-side encryption.

Your Account & Key

When you log in with your Google account for the first time, you will be asked to handle an Encryption Key.

  • Create Key: Generates a unique digital key that locks your notes.
  • Upload Key: Used to restore access if you are logging in from a new device.

Important

Your key is stored only on your device. We do not have a copy. Please save your key in a safe place. If you lose it, your notes cannot be decrypted by anyone, including us.

The core of TaskNote is writing. We’ve removed the clutter so you can focus on your thoughts.

Click the Orange + button in the bottom-right corner. A pristine new note will appear instantly. Just add a title and start typing.

Editing & Formatting

Click on any note to enter edit mode. Your work is saved automatically in real-time.

  • Context Menu: Right-click to access standard tools like Copy, Paste, and Spellcheck.
  • Bubble Menu: Select any text to quickly apply formatting (Bold, Italic, Headers) without cluttering the interface.

🗂 3. Organizing Your Workflow

Keep your workspace clean and efficient with our organization tools.

Don't let important ideas get lost.

  • 📌 Pinning: Click the star icon on any note to stick it to the top of your list for easy access.
  • 📂 Folders: Group related notes together. Simply drag and drop a note into a folder to file it away.

🎨 4. Make It Yours (Themes)

Your environment affects your productivity. TaskNote features a powerful theme engine that lets you customize the look and feel of the app.

Whether you prefer a high-contrast dark mode for coding late at night, or a soft pastel theme for morning journaling, TaskNote adapts to you.

🔍 5. Search & Power Commands

TaskNote is built for speed. You never have to dig through piles of notes manually.

Use the search bar at the top. Results update instantly as you type, filtering through titles and content simultaneously.

Slash Commands (/)

Power users can control the app directly from the search bar. Type / to see available commands:

  • /download all notes — Export your entire brain dump in Markdown format.
  • /encryption — Check your security status.
  • /logout — Sign out securely.

Keyboard Shortcuts (Cmd+Shift+?)

Work faster with keyboard shortcuts. Press Cmd+Shift+? (or Ctrl+Shift+? on Windows) at any time to see the full list.

  • Navigation: Cmd+1/2 to switch tabs, Cmd+K to search.
  • Editor: Standard formatting (Cmd+B/I/U), Cmd+Option+1/2/3 for headings.
  • Management: Cmd+Shift+F to move notes, Cmd+P to pin.

✅ Tasks & Reminders

Productivity isn't just about writing; it's about doing.

  • Tasks: Switch to the Tasks tab to manage your to-do list alongside your notes.
  • Reminders: Add a date/time to any task, and we'll nudge you when it's time to work.

💬 Need Help?

Your data is yours. If you ever need to leave, use the Data Portability command to take your notes with you.
