The TaskNote Manifesto

The modern internet is broken.

Software used to be a tool you owned. Today, it’s a trap you rent. Your data is mined for ads, your habits are tracked for engagement, and your private thoughts are scanned to train AI models.

We are building TaskNote because we want a quiet place to think.

Here is what we believe:

1. Privacy is a Human Right

Your journal, your business ideas, and your personal plans are extensions of your mind. Reading them without permission is a violation of your digital self.

• We don't want your data. That's why we built Zero-Knowledge architecture. Even if we wanted to read your notes, we can't.

2. Local-First is the Future

The Cloud is a great sync mechanism, but a terrible hard drive. You shouldn't need permission from a server to open your own notes.

• Software should work offline, instantly, and forever. If our company disappears tomorrow, your app should keep working.

3. No Vendor Lock-In

Data formats should be open. Proprietary formats (like .enex or specialized databases) are prisons designed to keep you from leaving.

• We use Markdown and JSON. Your data is portable. You are free to leave at any time. We work hard to make you want to stay, not to force you to stay.

4. Speed is a Feature

Bloatware is disrespectful to the user's time. Waiting 5 seconds for a note to load breaks your flow state.

• We prioritize millisecond-latency over flashy animations. We build tools for writers and thinkers, not for decoration.

5. You are the Customer, Not the Product

If a service is free, you are the product.

• We charge a fair price for a premium tool. This simple business model aligns our interests with yours. We work for you, not for advertisers.
