TaskNote showing encrypted private notes

Encryption on your device, without switching anything on

Plenty of apps call themselves secure while keeping your notes in readable form on their servers. Here every note is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it leaves, and what reaches the server is ciphertext we have no way to open.

  • AES-256-GCM on every note
  • The key is generated on your device and never sent
  • We cannot read your notes, by design
  • Encrypted on the wire and on the disk
How encryption on the device works in TaskNote

Suited to passwords, journals and anything private

This is built for the things you would not want read by anyone else: credentials, a journal, notes about your health, papers you are working through. A breach at our end exposes nothing, because there is nothing readable to expose.

  • Reasonable for your own credentials
  • A journal that stays yours
  • Sensitive work notes stay sensitive
  • No analytics run over what you write

Encrypted while it syncs, on every device you use

Your notes travel between iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and any browser, encrypted the whole way. The server never holds readable text, and decryption happens on your device rather than anywhere in between.

  • Encrypted end to end as it syncs
  • Opened only on your own device
  • iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows
  • No readable copy in transit or at rest

Notes, tasks and reminders, all encrypted on the free plan

Encryption is not the thing we charge for. The free plan carries encrypted notes, the board and reminders. Paying for privacy separately never made much sense.

  • Encryption on the free plan, always
  • A board for encrypted tasks
  • Reminders on encrypted notes
  • No card details asked for

Questions about encryption

What does end to end encrypted actually mean?

Your notes are encrypted on your device before they are sent anywhere. The server receives ciphertext and nothing else. Only your device, holding your key, turns it back into text.

Can you read my notes?

No. The key never reaches our servers, so what we store cannot be opened by us. That is a property of how it is built, not a policy we promise to follow.

Which algorithm is used?

AES-256-GCM, the strongest symmetric cipher in general use. It also detects tampering, so an altered note refuses to open rather than opening wrongly.

Is it free?

Yes, encryption included, with no card details. Notes, the board and reminders are free as well.

What if I forget my password?

Keep the recovery key somewhere outside the app. With it you get back in. Without both the password and that key, nobody can recover the notes, and that includes us.

Does it work the same on every device?

Yes. iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows or any browser, the same encryption applies in each one.
